Space Spectacular returns to the Royal Albert Hall

BE TRANSPORTED to galaxies far, far away this May as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates the music of sci-fi, including legendary themes from the likes of Star Wars, Star Trek and 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Space Spectacular at the Royal Albert Hall draws together beloved music from numerous classic films and TV series for a unique celebration of science fiction scores, encompassing everything from John Williams to Richard Strauss, Jerry Goldsmith and Gustav Holst.

This voyage through a galaxy of cherished tunes from deep space and beyond features a dazzling array of lights and lasers – alongside a stunning indoor fireworks display – all timed to perfectly compliment music from Superman, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Thunderbirds and many more.

Lucy Noble, Director of Events at the Royal Albert Hall, said:
“Sci-fi is about the magic, terror and wonder of the unknown, and these scintillating scores capture those grand emotions, from John Williams’ sweeping Superman theme to his chilling, foreboding Imperial March – forever associated with Darth Vader – and the music of Richard Strauss, so memorably used in Kubrick’s 2001.

“This unique show, starring one of the world’s greatest orchestras, is a fun-filled extravaganza that will delight anyone who loves science fiction – and the music it has inspired.”

Anthony Findlay, Chief Executive of Raymond Gubbay Ltd, said:
“It is fantastic to co-produce this sensational event at the Royal Albert Hall as it returns for a second time following sell-out performances last year.”

Among the treats on offer are selections from Jerry Goldsmith’s Star Trek scores, Holst’s The Planets, Arthur Bliss’s score for the prophetic 1936 masterwork Things to Come, and a special suite bringing together the best of Star Wars: six unforgettable pieces from the incomparable John Williams – arguably the greatest film composer of all time, and the winner of five Oscars.

So set your course for the Royal Albert Hall and prepare to be transported to a galaxy far, far away.

Space Spectacular is brought to you by the same team as the highly successful Classical Spectacular, which returns to the Royal Albert Hall in March 2016.
